The Root Canal Process
Before we begin your root canal, we’ll thoroughly numb the area around the tooth so that the most you will feel is slight pressure while we work. We also offer a variety of sedation options that we can discuss during your consultation to ensure that you are completely comfortable and at ease. We create a small entry point in the top of your tooth to access the pulp. Through this hole, we’ll remove any damaged pulp from inside of the tooth’s canals and disinfect the area. Then, we’ll use a material called gutta-percha to fill in the empty space and close the entry point. After your root canal is complete, Dr. Mai may recommend placing a crown over your tooth for additional protection.
Root Canal Therapy FAQs
How long does it take to heal after a root canal?
For most patients, the root canal recovery process is quick and easy. It doesn’t require an extended recovery period and often allows patients to return to work or school the very next day. You may experience some mild sensitivity after root canal therapy. However, this symptom should subside after a day or two following your root canal.
Is root canal therapy painful?
No. While there is a common misconception that root canals are a painful, intimidating procedure, they are actually nothing to fear. We make sure that the area is completely numb and also offer sedation dentistry to ensure that you feel comfortable every step of the way. Many patients report feeling almost-instant pain relief after their root canal is complete.
How much does root canal therapy cost?
It varies on a case-by-case basis. At your consultation, we’ll be able to provide you with an in-depth cost breakdown based on your individual needs. We’ll also go over your payment options to help you regain a healthy, fully functioning smile once more.
